It is important to be aware of the pH level in your pond water because it greatly affects fish and plant health, ammonia toxicity, algae growth, and biological filtration.
Laguna pH Test Kit provides an accurate and easy way to measure the pH value of your pond water. Using the test kit, you can determine whether your water is acidic or alkaline, and you can make adjustments accordingly.
Many pond plants thrive at a pH range of 6.6 to 7.2, whereas at higher pH values, algae can out-compete preferred pond plants. Therefore, you may use pH as one of several factors to inhibit algae growth and stimulate preferred plant growth.
It is recommended that you test the pond water several times during the week, at several different times of the day. This will reveal any fluctuations in pH that may take place. It is important to verify the pH level before adding fish and plants to ensure that it is stable.
pH also affects the toxicity of ammonia. When pH values are high, there is a greater amount of toxic ammonia present. As pH falls below 7.0 (neutral) ammonia is non-toxic. Therefore, the ideal range is 6,6 to 7.2, which keeps ammonia toxicity low, helps plant growth and allows adequate nitrifying activity by essential bacteria.
Laguna pH Test Kit includes everything needed to do 100 tests: one 10 mL bottle of pH (5.0 - 9.5 reagent), a test tube with cap, a pipette, a lab base, and an instruction leaflet. |
